About the Measure

The Menlo Park City School District works hard to keep schools safe and well-maintained. Still, decades-old buildings and infrastructure and unprecedented threats expose critical needs to preserve the quality of our local schools and keep our kids safe. This measure will upgrade fire alarms, communication systems, and security features to keep schools secure. With 94% of classrooms lacking air conditioning, it will install cooling systems and add shade structures for comfort on our hottest days. It will also replace 65-year-old buildings with new, earthquake-safe construction.

If passed, this measure would qualify the District for over $28 million in state and federal funding and energy grants that wouldn’t otherwise be available, helping us leverage our local dollars for maximum benefit to our schools. If we don’t act now, we will lose free funding, our facilities will become more expensive to maintain, and our children will suffer the consequences.

All funds from this bond will stay within our school district, and an independent citizen’s oversight committee will ensure that all funds from this measure are spent as promised and that no money is used for administrators’ salaries. Keeping our local schools up to date and in good repair keeps the community strong and protects property values.
